Full recording of the 19th of November 2025: Backbending asanas offer a wide range of physical, physiological, and psychological benefits. Because Iyengar Yoga emphasizes alignment, props, and gradual progression, practitioners often experience these benefits safely and deeply.
In this class you learn how backbends:
- Improve spinal mobility by extending the thoracic, lumbar, and cervical regions.
- Counteract habitual flexion from sitting, computer use, or slouching.
- Strengthen spinal extensors, which support upright posture.
- Expands the rib cage, improving lung capacity.
- Enhance diaphragmatic function, leading to more efficient breathing.
- Strengthen Legs. Glutes. Back muscles, Arms and shoulders
- build structural stability due to the precise alignment demanded in Iyengar practice.
