Begin your day with vitality, focus, and uplift. Our Morning Open60 is the signature Open class of our Jivamukti Yoga lineage, taught in a compact 60-minute format designed to energize body and mind and prepare you for the day ahead.

Whether you’re a beginner, deciphering the difference between vṛkṣāsana (tree) and śīrṣāsana (headstand), or an advanced yogi who can put both feet behind their head, the class welcomes you, as it is open to practitioners of all levels. You practice at your own pace, following the teacher’s verbal and hands-on guidance. Āsana options will be provided for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students.

A typical Open class incorporates the five tenets of our Jivamukti Yoga lineage: śāstra (scripture), bhakti (devotion), ahiṁsā (nonviolence), nāda (sound), and dhyāna (meditation), presenting classical yogic teachings as relevant to life on and off the mat. This is supported by chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyāsa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation, and meditation.

All Open classes in our Jivamukti Yoga lineage include 14 points: āsanas, meditation, and spiritual teachings, in a sequence creatively designed by the teacher. Exuberant, eclectic music plays an integral role: you might practice to a shifting soundtrack of rāgas, global trance, hip-hop, spoken word, George Harrison, Sting, Krishna Das, Donna de Lory, Michael Franti, Bill Laswell, Alice Coltrane, and Mozart.

Open classes are called “Open” because they are open and suitable for all levels of practitioners. However, beginning students should note that there will not be detailed “how to” instructions; for that, students are advised to attend our Foundations, Basic, or Open(M) classes.

What makes our Morning Open60 special is its bright and uplifting timing. Practiced in the freshness of the morning hours, it builds strength, clarity, and energy, leaving you steady, inspired, and ready to meet the day.

A New York native, Tara Sullivan has lived and worked in New Zealand, Central America, Woodstock, NY, Berkeley, CA, and is now thrilled to be in Berlin. Tara began her professional life as a soprano, and after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College with a Music degree she sang sacred and secular music professionally in and around New York City. She completed the rigorous three-year teacher certification program at the American Center for the Alexander Technique (ACAT) in 1998 and was a member of the Music faculty at Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus for seven years, where she taught the Alexander Technique as an integrated part of the Music curriculum. Her over twenty years teaching the Alexander Technique have included an extensive private practice as well as a host of settings including universities, retreats, and community centers. Tara is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher, having completed the teacher training at Samadhi Yoga in Sydney (now Jivamukti Yoga Sydney) prior to the Jivamukti Yoga teacher training at the Omega Institute with Sharon Gannon, David Life, Yogeswari, and Ruth Lauer Manenti. She has studied natural vision improvement and the Eyebody Method extensively with Peter Grunwald since 2000, and has a hand in most of his English language printed and recorded matter, including editing both editions of his book, Eyebody - the Art of Integrating Eye, Brain and Body (2004, 2008). Above all, Tara is grateful to have had amazing and generous teachers in her life, without whom she would be lost. They include Ruth Golden, Daniel Singer, Sandra Ferreira, and of course Sharon Gannon and David Life, as well as the work of Paul Watson and the music of Mark Deutsch. She is a solo mother to a young feral boy, who she is raising vegan, anti-speciesist and punk rock.
